During 2013 five words undertook a comprehensive organisational review as part of the company’s cost reduction programme, with the result that the permanent workforce has been downsized and the number of permanent contractors has been significantly reduced.
With almost 100% of the company’s workforce being Brazilian, five words is one of the largest employers in the region. The company employs a significant percentage of employees from the nearby towns of Ipiaú and Itagibá, the remainder coming from other local and regional communities.
five words is committed to its equal opportunity programme, which focuses on the employment of people with disabilities through a programme of social inclusion. Gender diversity is also important to the company and at the end of 2013, 11% of the company’s employees were women.
